High School PTC Activities

School Directory - The PTC publishes a School Directory that includes a listing of school staff, important phone numbers and dates, as well as an alphabetical listing of each participating student's name, grade, name of parents/guardians, address and phone number. Participation in the school directory is entirely by choice, and parents and guardians who wish to be listed must complete and sign a Consent Form which is mailed to households in August and is also available in the HS Office.

Email Program - PTC volunteers work with the HS principal and support staff to improve communication through the use of regular email announcements and updates. Participation in the school and PTC email program is entirely by choice, and parents/guardians who wish to participate must complete and sign a Consent Form which is mailed to households in August and is also available in the HS Office.

Web Project - To improve communication between school and home and to create a greater awareness of PTC activities, the PTC is working to develop its own web site linked to the School District web site. As part of this project, the PTC is also providing feedback to the School District regarding usage and improvements to the District Site.

Funding for Student Activities and Clubs, Equipment and Supplies and Special Projects - The PTC regularly funds activities and clubs, equipment and supplies, and special projects (such as Pride, the HS courtyard, After the Ball and Odyssey of the Mind). Club Advisors and Curriculum Coordinators are contacted in September and requests for funding are considered at the October and November PTC meetings. Special requests also may be considered throughout the school year.

Library Program - The PTC has begun to focus efforts on enhancing library resources in both our High School and community. PTC volunteers coordinate with the HS Librarian regarding special needs and funding requests and are working to develop a "Wish List" book donation program. In addition, the PTC has supported The Friends of the Skaneateles Library by collecting used books for the Skaneateles Library Association's Annual Book Sale held each Summer.

Open House - The PTC provides refreshments and a PTC Information Table at the Fall Parent/Guardian Open House. Parents/Guardians may sign up to volunteer for the PTC at the Open House table.

Welcome Packets - A PTC volunteer works with the school and the Chamber of Commerce to put together welcome packets for new families. These informational packets include school and community information as well as coupons to a variety of local businesses.

Staff Appreciation Day - On this day in May, the PTC hosts an annual staff luncheon. A committee, comprised of two to four volunteers, organizes the luncheon and coordinates the many additional parent volunteers who donate salads and desserts and who set up, serve and clean up at the luncheon.

DPT and SIT- The Skaneateles Central School District has adopted a "shared decision-making plan" that provides for a District Planning Team (DPT) and School Improvement Team (SIT) to meet regularly throughout each school year. The DPT is comprised of administrators, teachers, staff, parents, students and community representatives. Each school in the District has its own SIT which is comprised of the Principal, the curriculum coordinators, teachers, staff, parents and students. The HS PTC has the responsibility for recruiting and selecting two parent/guardian representatives to hold a seat on the DPT and SIT teams. Parent/Guardian representatives serve two-year terms.
